The Taxpayers are one of the most underrated punk rock bands
This week I am discussing the punk rock band The Taxpayers, who I am sure probably no one has ever heard of.
This week I want to discuss a band that is the most underground band I have discussed so far on this blog.
They go by The Taxpayers, which is a simple yet fitting band name for the Portland, Oregon based group. They’re an experimental punk-rock group consisting of six members while sometimes adding more members depending on their performance. What is interesting about this band is that they are a very DIY band; they create their own CDs, book their shows themselves, and create their own merchandise.

Just like the other bands and artists I have discussed, The Taxpayers are very experimental and their songs draw influence from many other genres, including folk and jazz.
The band started in 2007, and have since put out 6 albums and one EP. I’m going to be honest, I have yet to listen to all 6 albums, but I did enjoy the two I did listen to, which are the 2010 album To Risk So Much For One Damn Meal, and the 2012 album God, Forgive These Bastards: The Forgotten Life Of Henry Turner. If you are interested in checking out The Taxpayers, I recommend these two albums. As you probably can tell from the titles of the albums, or if you are a fan of punk rock in general, their music does include strong language.
Since this band is super unheard of and only has 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, there really isn’t much else to say about them other than their music is worth listening to. It seems that the band is so underground that they don’t even have a wikipedia page, so if you want to know more about them and their shows, I would check their Twitter and Facebook accounts. Their music is also available on most streaming sites including Apple and Spotify!

Comment down below if you have any recommendations for underrated artists I should cover.
I can definitely hear the experimental component in the linked audio clips. I'm too old to make recommendations on who you should cover, but maybe think about a little synergy with your classmates??
Hey Haley! This was super fascinating to read about! I've never heard of The Taxpayers and I actively listen to punk rock. In fact, I'm in a punk rock band called "the Overlooked" and are very much DIY ourselves. We have made our own CDs and Shirts as well as traveled to gigs in our own vehicles. We, along with another band from the valley coined the term OVDIY (Ohio Valley Do It Yourself). Anyway, I will have to give The Taxpayers a listen and keep them on my radar. Great Post!
